Antioxidants Vs Cancer – Free Radicals Link to Cancer and How Antioxidants May Help

You must have noticed that cancer rates seem to be getting higher all the time. It seem like almost everybody gets it at one stage of their life. Like you, I have lost loved ones to this awful disease. Its time you start to fight back.

There is a vast amount of evidence that cancer is caused by free radicals. Free radicals are these rogue molecules that are extremely unstable. Because they are unstable, they like to latch on to other molecules. In this case your cells.

Once they have “latched” on, oxidization occurs and you get all types of degenerative diseases. Cancer is one of the worst. Free radicals on iron cause rust, so that’s an easy way to think about it.

Free radicals are caused by our environment. Pollution and chemicals are getting worse, which starts to explain why we seem to be seeing cancer and other diseases more and more.

Our body’s response to these chemicals also makes a difference. This is why stress and other factors are linked to this oxidation. And they are especially linked to the related diseases.

Fortunately, there is a way to fight back. Antioxidants are nutrients that fight against free radicals, and remove them from your body. Remember oxidization, is like rust. Antioxidants remove the rust. Or at least they help to remove the free radicals before they cause the oxidization.

There is some debate on the effectiveness of antioxidants once the resulting disease has already started. But there is also a lot of evidence and personal testimony about their benefits even then. Possibly because it slows the progression by removing further free radicals.

There are many fruits which are very high in the vitamins that make up these antioxidants. Blueberries, Acai Berry and Grapes (especially the seeds) are three of the best. Tomatoes and pomegranates also have high quantities of these vitamins.

In general, it seems to be the dark colored fruits that have the highest levels. Also, vitamin C and vitamin E appear to be best. So look for fruits and vegetables that are high in those vitamins.

Antioxidants, also called proanthocyanidins work by attaching themselves to the free radical, before it has a chance to attach to your cells. Once they are joined, they are no longer “unstable” and looking to attach to your cells. So they are harmless and are just removed from your body.

It’s easy to see how antioxidants are valuable at a high level. Just remember that free radicals are unstable molecules that need to attach to other molecules. If they attach to the cells of your body, they cause oxidation, which in turn, causes disease. Foods with these vitamins attach to the free radicals before they have a chance to attack your cells. They then become inactive.

As you are making out your shopping list this week, make sure to pick up some foods that are high in vitamins C and E. Or better yet, get yourself an antioxidant supplement like Acai Berry Juice or grape seed extract. Cancer and other degenerative diseases suck. Fight back with antioxidants for the healthiest life possible.
