How to Cure Insomnia Without Sleeping Pills or Therapy

Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or to remain asleep long enough to feel rested, especially when this is a problem that continues over time. Most people have a sleepless night once in a while but for some people, sleeplessness is habitual and they walk around half asleep, groggy or just miserable. Without enough sleep, the entire day goes lousy and we function poorly. And if sleepless nights continue for a longer term, we forget to enjoy life.

You may wonder when insomnia would strike you and it can happen to you during any given time. There is a research shows that 1 out of 3 people suffer from some sort of insomnia. This includes inability to fall asleep, unable to sleep through the night or frequently wake up during the night.

Don’t worry, there are many ways to help you sleep through your sleepless nights and cure your insomnia.

A common misconception is that people start taking sleeping pills as a mean to cure insomnia. Think again, sleeping pills are effective if you have serious issues such as bereavement, loss of your job or marital break-up. The usage of sleeping pills is a temporary crutch at best, not a long term answer. You can not cure insomnia by using such pills.

If you want to get some peaceful sleep at night, you should by all means avoid taking caffeine, tea, coffee, coke, chocolate and sugar like cheesecake etc. Don’t forget to check if you are taking any diet or sinus pills that are very likely keep you awake at night.

Never ever take alcohol with sleeping pills. It’s lethal to take sleeping pill and alcohol together and the false belief that it can help you relax is wrong. Mixing alcohol and sleeping pills are extremely dangerous.

Also, avoid heavy meals at night and try to eat much before your sleeping time. You may also want to skip liquids at night if you are having insomnia.

Try not to nap during day if you are having problems sleeping at night. Continuous napping will train your body such that you will be habitual of sleeping during the day instead of night and thus become an insomniac.

Avoid watching TV or computer while on the bed and trying to sleep if you are suffering from insomnia. TV will only delay your sleep.

Exercise to improve your sleeping habits but don’t do it too much and also avoid exercising just before your sleeping time.
