Swim to a Healthier Life with Your Own Lap Pool

Swimming is a life-long sport. All ages can participate in it. It is low-impact, a great cardiovascular workout and as an added bonus, builds lean muscle. As a result, many health conscious people want easy access to a lap pool without the hassle of a gym membership, or sharing your lane with four other people. There are many great options for having a lap pool right at your own home.

Above ground lap pools: These are a great option for those with limited space and they are completely portable (therefore you can take it with you if you plan on moving in the future); although, it is probably not a good idea to move the pool too often. The dimensions of an above ground lap pool are usually around 7 ft. by 28 ft. and are 7 ft. deep. They are generally built so that only one person can exercise at a time and aren’t meant to be played in. They also typically only come in one shape rectangular. They are also relatively inexpensive as far as pools go – coming in at around $2500. They are an excellent option for someone with limited space.

Indoor lap pools: This is a good option for someone who lives in a climate that gets colder at different times of year. They are usually smaller than a recreational rectangular pool measuring 10 ft wide or less. The benefits of this type of lap pool is that it can be used for recreation and entertaining in addition to exercise. Also, the addition of an indoor lap pool will only increase the value of your home. Cost of indoor lap pools vary greatly depending on your location, the size you want etc.

Fiberglass lap pools: Fiberglass has many positives. For one the surface is smooth and will not result in cuts or scrapes. This is especially important in a lap pool as you will frequently be touching the sides of the pool and pushing off of them. The fiber glass material also results in lower energy and maintenance bills. The pool will not have to be refinished as a cement pool would be. Therefore, they save you money on several levels.

Vinyl lap pool: Another type of above ground lap pools is the vinyl lap pool. They are also inexpensive, portable, and easy to take care of. With the money you save (by not putting in an in-ground pool) you can even build a deck around it.

Lastly, lap pool dimensions are important. You not only want to ensure that you, and whoever else is planning on using the pool have enough room to get a proper work out, but you also want to make sure that you pool follows code. Many neighborhoods have codes which dictate where a pool must be located in the yard among other things. Therefore, before installing a pool, do your research.
