The Ab Belt – Myth or Miracle?

A major break through in the world of fitness, dieting or weight loss is nothing but a very well concocted lie. There are so many products that perform seeming miracles, especially on telemarketing TV shows. The ab belt is no exception to this rule. It seems to miraculously give you a flat, toned stomach within weeks and all you have to do is wear it while you watch TV or drive to work, so on and so forth. They are easy to use; but do they really work? In most cases the simple answer is no. They are pretty much a waste of time, especially if you want to lose weight. And a lot of the time they lack medical certification.

Ab belts shot to prominence in the 1970s during the Olympics. It uses EMS (Electronic Muscle Stimulator) to burn away fat or so the claim remains. Electric currents cause stomach muscles to contract thereby burning fat. Companies that manufacture these ad belts have been involved in countless controversies. Major manufacturers claim that you can build a six-pack without any exercise, but that just isn’t the case. They also have no medical warnings about possible carcinogens, or regarding the effect such a belt can have on people with medical conditions.

Consumer satisfaction also remains low when it comes to the ab belt. This is no surprise because the weight loss and muscle building claims you see in commercials are overstated and impossible to achieve without steady exercise. A toned sexy man or woman who claims to have benefitted from using an ab belt is a highly paid model and nothing more. If you want a six-pack or if you want to lose weight, do it the traditional way and invest in a gym. Now that will be truly worth it.
